You are a treat....This country could use more people like you...What you are doing with yourself and your family is terrific..... Best of luck in all you do! ....You need to find a way to reach the millions of people out of work in this country....They need your help too.....

Michael,
I'm a retired USAF pilot, with a much younger wife and 3 kids. In 1993 we departed Oregon in a Cross 46 Trimaran, initially to sail the Pacific. Our children were 5,3,and 1 when we left. We circumnavigated in around 4 and a half years, returning in '98. My wife home schooled the kids, and we took turns on the helm at night. Another way to travel, really not expensive, and relatively easy these days with GPS,radar, computers, etc..
I tell people if the world were like the cruising community, we wouldn't have any problems, since most everyone takes care of each other. Sincerely, Ron

amy,

don't know if you're checking back, but i just saw your comment and i wanted to chime in in case anyone else had a similar question. michael and i have the same stepdaughter (who's now 8). i met khymi's dad when she was four and a half.

what sort of logistical challenges do you have in mind? a couple factors i've appreciated: the fact that khymi is homeschooled has been a big help in terms of her parents' schedules. her dad does work a 40/wk job now, but it would probably complicate things more if she were also bound to a school schedule. her dad also has been able to take time off or request to work from home sometimes when she's here, so he can spend as much time with her as possible. we're also fortunate enough to have family members on both sides who are willing to help with transportation, childcare, etc. i'm sure hannah and michael have their own helpful perspectives on this topic. you're welcome to contact me if you want--just leave a comment on our blog and i'll get it.

I've really enjoyed all I've seen on your site so far but really wish you would drop the curse words...they really aren't necessary and makes it hard to listen to your video posts with the kids around.

Micheal,
Just wondering. I caught the part about you being a step dad first to a 3 and a half year old. I was wondering if the biological parent is around as I also have 2 children from a previous marriage and am trying to figure out the logistics of a mobile lifestyle while keeping them in touch with their dad. My husband and I also have a 22 month old and are really interested in changing our lifestyle. Do you happen to know any other blended families that live this way?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for checking back. Since the video was recorded I've:

1. Continued to run my primary business, a graphic design studio.

2. Became a partner in startup call AdJack - http://www.adjack.tv

3. Continued with FamilyHack.com

4. Begun development on several new business "muses".

5. Drank lots of great wine

6. Knocked up my wife. We're due in May.

Holy Crap! I need a nap. But seriously. Is there anything specific you wanted to know? We've been living this way for several years and I'd be happy to share any experience I have.

Best,
Michael
