Travel Hack: Control the Clutter

As we packed for our return home from San Diego, I shot this 1-minute video showing one of the ways we use packing cubes to stay sane when we travel. The cubes we use are eBags’ Packing Cubes.Similar products include Rick Steves’ Cubesand these clear front cubes from Lewis N. Clark. So, click your buns off and start taming the travel clutter.

Nice, post looking forward to more great tips.

I would also love to know how you book your flights and select a destination.

    Hi Dean,

Since we have the bulk of our frequent flier miles with AA and UA, we don’t get too fancy with booking flights. No cheap ass Air-Courier flights for us. Plus, the fact that we need 4 tickets limits us too. We usually search Travelocity, Kayak, Expedia and some others for a best fare on one of our preferred airlines.

Regarding our choices of destination, it’s all about what we personally like. For example, I’m a wine guy and the wines from the Rhone region of France are a passion of mine. So, that was a destination this year.

We have a short list of places we want to go. These are places we are actively compiling information on. Then, we have a loose 12-month travel plan which includes all our trips to see family and friends as well as any extended vacations. For example, we just returned from a month with family in San Diego, there will be a few short trips to visit family in other states, then a return to Buenos Aires in the coming months. After that, a trip to Spain or France is on the itinerary. Beyond that…who knows.

    Best,
    Michael

    why not zip-locs?

We’ve recently fallen in love with Space Bags Travel Bags. These are like giant ziplock bags except that they have a little one-way air release chamber at the bottom. You place your clothes in the bag, zip the seal, then press down & roll the bag slightly to force all of the air out. This made a huge difference on our recent trip to Moscow.

Thanks for the tip Rob. I’ll give these a look. Good luck with the adoption.
