I don't know what "corporate America" means (another continent, maybe?), but I have worked for a large company. And left them as soon as I could for more productive places, because I do not "abide" such things well. Nor does anyone with a healthy soul.

These are not the parts of a succeeding business; they are parts of a successful one. Big companies have these things, just as the empires of the old world have their analogues. They are a sign that the restless and resourceful nomads have begun to squat, lay claims, and squabble over fences. Abiding them does not require training or acclamation, just good sense. Only those who have no skill consider abiding such things a "skill".

I would rather my child have a rude awakening than sleep forever.

"All machines have their friction...But when the friction comes to have its machine, and oppression and robbery are organized, I say, let us not have such a machine any longer. -- H. D. Thoreau

I graduated from a California public High School in 1974, and am confident (due to my experience with today's college grads) that I learned more in High School than they do in four or five years of college today. This was just part of our decision to home school my late in life baby (who will be 6 yrs old in a couple of days). He takes to learning naturally, as I believe most kids would if given the right opportunities. He is reading and doing the math and performing better in many other subjects than the 5th graders I tutor every week.

Hi. We are a french homeschooling family! I thought we could only hear all of that here, on the "old continent".
I identify with much of what you say, if not all: things are alike everywhere.
Well, voilà. Just a little "bonjour" ...

that's an awful statement to make. And a really dumb reason to homeschool - just because of the rare chance they could be hurt in a school attack? They could get killed by a mugger walking down the street. Your place of schooling wont affect that. Grow up

Americans (home schooled or otherwise) consistently underperform all other 'wealthy' nations academically.

In the only global examinations specification (the International Baccalaureate) Americans pull the world average down significantly - so thanks for making the rest of us look smarter!

You are an international laughing stock!

Keep your dull witted kids at home or send them to school - who cares? They're still going to turn out dysfunctional.

Our daughter was 'homeschooled'. She is now a Doctor of Pharmacy, manager of a well known pharmacy chain, and attained that at the age of 24. Her first COLLEGE degree was awarded at age 18, then she went on to professional COLLEGE. Get your head out of the sand and quit being so narrow minded. Colleges love homeschoolers. There are many more successful homeschoolers like she is out there.
