A Simple Trick to Turbo Charge
Learning a Foreign Language.

This short video shows you a simple trick I use to “practice” a new language. If you have any trouble watching the video above, it’s also available on YouTube

UPDATE:
Our favorite way to learn a new language is by using the all-audio courses from Pimsleur. They are pricey, but they work.

You listen to a 30 minute lesson each day, then do the practice trick I spoke of in the video. Of course, audio won’t teach you to read so you’ll need another program if you need that. Here are links to the specific Pimsleur Spanishand French series’ we’ve used.

You can also see all the languages they offer and listen to a free lesson here.

What’s your favorite language learning program or trick? We’d love to hear your experiences.

Family Hack’s — Best of 2007

As 2007 comes to a close, we’re going to partake in some shameless self-promotion and award some of last year’s posts a “best of 2007″ designation. This may seem silly but it means a lot to the winning posts. They get a spiffy T-Shirt, a case of cheap beer and bragging rights at the next blog post convention. Plus, chicks dig it. 7 Surefire Ways to Tame Cord Clutter.

I’ve already shown you how I handle my cable clutter when we travel. But there are a much wider variety of solutions for the cables we accumulate at home. Today, I’m going to take a look at 7 options.

1. The Cable Shelf:

Cord Shelf

My choice for taming cord spaghetti is a cable shelf. I like it's large capacity and easy access. When we travel I can easily remove the cables I need.

Life Hacker has a step-by-step article showing how they used my favorite cable shelf to whip one of their desks into shape.

2. The Cord Hog

Cord Hog

The Cord Hog is simple to use, comes in many colors and is appropriately priced….ie: dirt cheap.

Decapitated Teddy Bear Flash Drive

The Decapitated Teddy Bear USB Flash

We didn’t create this…we just felt the need to ween you all off Halloween with this twisted little tech “hack”.

So, if you have a thirst for blood and a need for portable storage, you might want to get all hopped up on leftover candy and take a knife to an adorable stuffed animal. It’s cathartic, creative and more than a little bit creepy. Continue reading ‘Decapitated Teddy Bear Flash Drive’

How Do You Trick Your Kids?

John Watson’s wife convinced a kindergartner to do something he didn’t want to do by offering him the next two days off from school. Guess what day it was.

In our family, the six year old thinks the ice cream truck is the “music truck”. Although, she recently said “I saw Timmy get an ice cream from the music truck”, so I think we’re busted!

So, it’s confession time y’all. What pile of BS are you proudest of foisting on your little buggers? Do tell.
